Name problem

Name of Community Centre is a confusing issue

New sign cost £650

Questions to the Police at the PACT meeting at the Owain Glyndwr Waunceirch Community Centre on 25th July made everyone aware about an ambulance being despatched to a nearby hall in error during an emergency call out.

It highlighted the lack of foresight by the Community Council in omitting, or rather dropping, "Owain Glyndwr" from the name of the centre in view of the fact of another building in the same area having a similar name: "The Waunceirch Community Hall".

The Police were commended on using the name "Owain Glyndwr" on their notices for the meeting, as every resident in the area knows the centre by that name.

It is alleged that that crime of destroying the old sign was not reported to the police (i.e. no crime number) which meant that no claim could be made on the Centre's insurance.  It is also alleged that the new sign cost council tax payers £650.    Another information source said, allegedly, that a possible claim on insurance could have affected future insurance premiums - however, this is no excuse for not reporting the crime to the police.

Adult vandalism of this nature should not be forgotten. Residents are requested to keep their ears open as those responsible are very likely to laugh and joke about what they did. It is only a question of time before they are found out.

Anyone with information on this crime should report it to the police at Neath Police Station, or by telephoning 101.

The name change also meant the County Borough Council spending hundreds of pounds in adminisration and postal costs advising electors the new name as a polling station.
