DJ Councillor shows up home town
Tony's back on the air waves - but not in Neath
Former Radio One DJ and Cllr.Tony Wyn-Jones is to make yet an other come back when he joins the team of Radio Tircoed - a community radio station on 106.5 FM or on the internet at:
www.tircoedforestvillage.org.uk/
Tony will be presenting the drive time show on Monday's & Wednesday's 4pm to 6pm. Everybody who works at the station are all volunteers and receive no payment at all.
Tony said: "I'm really looking forward to it very much, it's a long time since I was on the radio but now I'm back and raring to go."

The above photo shows the part of the studio which is located at the village hall pictured left. It is understood that the radio station was funded by a lottery grant. The exciting thing about Tircoed Radio is that it can be heard on the Internet - this means that Tony can be heard all over the world!
It is rather ironical that a little village with around 500 houses should have its own radio station while Neath, with thousands of homes hasn't one. With a little vision, the Empire Cinema would make an ideal base for such a venture, with other community facilities. It would certainly save Cllr. Tony Wyn-Jones travelling all the way to Tircoed!
Ed. Note Tircoed Forrest Village, Nr. Penllergaer, is run as a trust where every household pays a sum to a central fund (it was £50 per annum) - this pays for cutting open grass areas and the running if the village hall. Residents can use the village hall for parties FREE OF CHARGE - unlike our area where we pay well over £150 per household as a community charge through our council tax and also have to pay to use our community centres. Now, unlike Neath, Tircoed have their own community radio station - which you can listen to on the Internet.
It goes to show that smaller communities can be run far better than bigger ones. Dyffryn Clydach is another example.
