Roman Way Road Saga

Banana Island Road Going Pear Shape?

Councillor Janice Dudley is said to be devastated over the result of the voting by NPT council's planning committee for the proposed new road layout at the Banana Island at Roman Way.

It arises from a new school building to be built on the existing playing field and the buses conveying children to it.   The plan is for buses to off-load children on the Eastern side of the island for them to cross the main road under the supervision of a traffic warden,   It is understood that the opposite  side of the island will be used for two lanes of traffic.

Cllr. Dudley has asked for the names of councillors who voted for this ridiculous scheme to be documented so that residents are aware of their irresponsible attitude.  It should be noted that the committee was divided and the Chairperson had the casting vote.

Residents of Roman Way, whose access will be affected, have threatened to lay across the road at an appropriate time if this scheme goes ahead,  Cllr. Dudley said she was prepared to join them.

Last year planning permission for an Aldi store at Roman Way was turned down because of road traffic problems.  Many local residents think that the proposed 'island' plan will cause an even bigger problem.

NEWS EXTRA    Cllr, Tony Wyn-Jones wants it known that he fully supports Cllr. Janice Dudley on this matter, even although he is not on the Planning Committee.  He said that the proposed plan should not apply to what is a very busy road.
