Background story

the sign in 1999

Around 1999 the local authorities attempted to keep road traffic away from North Waunceirch to avoid the junior primary school located there.  In an attempt to do this they installed a road barrier near the school and put notices on A48 Neath-Skewen Road.  These notices have now been removed.

This view is now totally disregarded by the Planning Department of the Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council with an eye sore development opposite the school.

Road congestion can be seen on this photograph. The eye sore development is on ground to the left of the picture and the school is on the right.   The original plan included a road barrier (the ambulance in the picture is crossing it)  to limit traffic passing the school.   It seems that the disused barrier will now be removed with the Borough Council U-turn.

Deceit By Developers

Signs were put up without planning permission, which was later applied for retropectively (see yellow notice at bottom of post).   This effectively reduced the number of objections as residents were deceived into thinking it was a 'fait accompli'.

 Another Notice for Shops

The notice on the right advertised commercial premises 'To Let'.  Here again this was erected before planning permission was given.

And now the Eye Sore

34 houses* are now being built on a ridge top site that is only really suitable for bungalows.
Together with the adjacent commercial units that look like a row of locked up garages, it is going to be Neath's greatest eye-sore.

*LATEST NEWS.... The total number of houses has now been increased to 38 with another planning application.
