Just back from a recce of the Altandhu and Achiltibuie area and very nice it was too. Only drawback was the number of vehicles on the single track roadies but hey - it's tourist season. The camp site looks ok - maybe hard getting pegs in and the grass is used. The toilet block is new and well equiped. Fridges are avail for foodstuffs and 'weefee' is onsite too. The Fuaran bar is up the hill so easy to roll down the hill into bed! Access road could be tricky - it's steep and gritty - but will test your mettle. So might midges (HBMs). The view is pretty good and a sea breeze would be advantageous for HBMs.
The Summer Isles festival (see website for more details) takes place in and around Achiltiebuie and starts in the afternoon and goes on until midnight (£20 / skull). Examine the web link above for more details. This may mean the camp site is busier than normal although it's hard to gauge.
I intend camping at the site on the Friday night but may move to the shore line (wild camp) near the jetty on the Saturday as it's less of a walk!
Achiltibuie shop and petrol on Saturday until 6 pm - closed on Sunday. Shop is licensed and has U/L petrol at 149 p/ltr - not bad considering the road it comes over on! Pollbain shop is for sale so dont know stock condition.
Hotel and new hydroponics unit in Achiltiebuie - some 4 miles from camp site.
