The background to the De Brassey family 

The De Brassey’s, an old aristocratic Norman family, came to England in 1066, as part of William the Conqueror's army.

Their reward was to be granted land, on which they built a fine Manor house.

Although the family became both richer and more powerful they remained in residence at Atherton Manor through the centuries. 

The present day Lady Atherton, gripped by the family history bug, has begun her research and discovered some interesting women in her family.
