1939 Bedford Type M Water Tanker Scale: 1:50 -- Unknown Fire Service -- A water tanker fitted with pump and rudimentary fire fighting equipment. The configuration is very European and is unlikely to have been British. An appliance of this type would have been typical in rural areas with no water main service. The very low slung demountable hose reel seems impractical for this sort of service though.

1939 Ford Pump Tanker Scale: 1:50 -- London Fire Brigade, UK -- Blackwall is a fictitious fire station in South East London’s “E” Division, the station number would have been something like 23 (the old E. Greenwich No.). This model is a puzzle. Although it is supposed to be a 1939 appliance it bears the post-war LCC LFB crest. That could have been due to being repainted after a period with the NFS, but the decal seem to be atypical for LFB appliances, having it’s “division” sign written below the crest. There was no such division as Blackwall (divisions had a single letter eg. A division) and it;s station would have appeared on a black plate on either side along with it’s call sign (division + number). -- Lledo London's Burning Collection

1939 Austin Taxi Towing Vehicle Scale: 1:72 -- Auxilliary Fire Service (London), UK -- 1934 Austin Taxicab. Converted for use as a towing vehicle for the Auxiliary Fire Service. Just prior to the start of WWII the Home Office instituted the Auxiliary Fire Service to augment the existing Fire Brigades. These units were poorly equipped to start with, many received trailer pumps but no towing vehicles, so they improvised. Private cars were no commonplace at this time but London had plenty of Taxicabs, and it was not unusually to see one of these pressed into the service of the AFS. -- Oxford Die Cast 7AT003
