The final of the Jim Donald Singles took place at the Montrose Bowling Club on Friday 13th August and it was guaranteed a Hope Paton winner.

It was contested between Dennis Machir and  Wendy MacCallum.

For only the second time in its history there was a woman winner as Wendy took the title 21 - 17 in an evenly contested final on a fresh summer evening at a busy Montrose green.

Both players played great bowls and it was only in the final ends that Wendy managed to open up some sort of a gap to increase the pressure on Dennis who had matched his opponent, bowl for bowl throughout the final. On various occasions when Dennis appeared to have the upper hand, Wendy played crucial bowls to gain the shot/s and make his task all the more difficult.

The final end was typical of the game as both players held the shot bowl after bowl  until Wendy delivered her last bowl perfectly which gave her the two shots she needed for victory.
