Margaret MacCallum made it two in a row when she took this year's Laidies Pairs Green Championship with partner Ethel Norrie, adding to her Singles title won earlier.

Like most of the finals we have had this season, it was another close affair.

Playing against Edna Wellington and Frances Stott they were trailing right up to the ninth end, and looked like heading for defeat, with Frances and Edna well in in control at 9 - 4. Then disaster struck and turned the game on its head.

In the tenth end Frances and Edna played a really loose end, and Margaret and Ethel were back in the final, scoring a five.

At the thirteenth end it was 12 -11 to Edna and Frances, but the following end saw their opponents take  two shots  to gain the lead by one shot going into the final end. With the last bowl to play by Frances to tie the match, Edna was heard to shout, " You need to move that jack!"

"Aye, but how, replied Frances?

Fate decreed that she never moved it, and Margaret and Ethel ran out this year's worthy winners 14 - 12.
