On a glorious summer’s day, fifty children from Lochside Primary School held a Taster Session down at Hope Paton Bowling Green on Monday 1^st June. It was a great success and another one will follow on Monday 15^th June. After school sessions will follow during the rest of the summer months for those youngsters who want to learn more about playing bowls.

It has been organised by Hope Paton’s John Dempsey, George and Peggy Henderson and Donald Grant, along with with Jamie McLaren Active Schools Coordinator (Montrose) and Lochside School Headteacher, Douglas Wood.

Bowling is going through a difficult time with membership hitting an all time low. We have to try and encourage new members, especially young people, and this is one way to do it.

The response was very positive and there were certainly quite a few youngsters who showed a  natural flair for the game.

The club are on the look out for smaller bowls for the children to use. So if you have any bowls ( Size 0 to 3 ) lying around gathering dust, then contact the Hope Paton Bowling Club who can certainly put them to good use.
