Same Sex Marriage

Is the call for same sex marriage really justified?

Certainly the only ones who want it and will gain by it are a small minority. The majority are against it. So why are the Government trying to bulldoze it through Parliament?

To placate the LGB community, the Government bought in Civil Ceremonies for same sex couples. This is not open to heterosexual couples, so same sex marriage can be nothing to do with ‘equality’ as the Government has claimed.

Is it the LibDems pushing the Tories, as a condition of the coalition?

The Government claim that this will strengthen marriage but to couples that are already married feel that this is weakening marriage, devaluing it, removing what is special about marriage.  It is insulting to them.

Surely marriage is for couples to have children and bring them up in a stable balanced home with the influence of a Mother and Father. Isn’t this what nature intended?

Can a same sex couple have children without outside intervention?

I can see children in same sex relationships, particularly with men, being bullied at school. The children must miss out by not having the support of a mother and father.

A young girl starting her periods; are two men the best qualified to help her through this difficult and sometimes frightening time?

There are far more important things for the Government to concentrate on; sorting out the economy, Europe, Immigration, Crime, Health, etc. Certainly, at the best, this is a distraction and if they are really serious, it should be part of their next Manifesto. It is important enough to go for a referendum, rather that just trying to foist it onto us. It has never been in any manifesto or even mentioned in the Queens speech.

This is a major, Cultural, Religious, Social and moral change and should not be rushed. Marriage is an institution that has survived for thousands of years; does the Coalition Government even have the right to change this?

Update: Same Sex Marriage has again been bulldozed through Parliament, after Cameron doing a deal with the Labour Party. I wonder what promises he has had to make? The proposal to include Civil Ceremonies in the bill, to allow Heterosexual couples to have the same rights was rejected but agreed that there would be consultation. Will that be rushed through as well?

A senior Labour MP and Gay activists have said that anyone who opposes the bill is discriminatory. What an insult. It seems that if you disagree with something that minority groups want or dare to voice an opinion, you are discriminating against them. This is so wrong and far from the truth.

It is this constant shout of 'discrimination' that has given the Human Rights Act such a bad name. A law that was intended for the good has been abused.
