Cleddyf Annwn

spadroon, small sword, fencing sword

This grip design was so named by Jo Thomas who bought it.

Here's the mythology in Jo's own words.

"Cleddyf Annwn" could be loosely translated as "Hellsword" or "Sword of Hell" but that doesn't quite get the idea across! Annwn (or Annwvn) is the Welsh pre-Christian Under- or Otherworld. While it's often identified with Hell and the resting place of souls, it was considered to be made up of many lands and kingdoms - that could be good, bad, eternally young, beautiful, ugly and/or full of magic. It's the kind of place heroes go to steal treasures. Not that I'm saying this particular piece has magical properties or that I stole it.

Jo Thomas is a hobby fencer. She has a list of interests and (other) hobbies as long as a smallsword and some of it can be found on her website: http://www.journeymouse.net/

I shall be wraping her other small sword grip to make a matched pair and will post a photo at that time
