the Saint George grip

 

These two grips, wrapped on the same day, are slightly different. The one on the Rockwell boat shell (left) has three single strands between the twisted series and on the AFS small sword (right) four single strands in between.  It is based on classic wire wrapped design, for which Philip Crawley (see below) has given it the name “Chevalier St-George”.  Thanks Philip, and if anyone wants one they can ask for the Chevalier St-Georgeor or the Philip Crawley special.

About Philip Crawley

Phil has focused on studying the western martial arts since 1997. In
that time he has studied backsword with the Macdonald Academy of Arms, rapier with the Sussex Rapier School and qualified as an Instructor and Full Member of the Dawn Duellists Society.

He discovered a passion for the French school of fencing theory and practice and developed his specialties in smallsword,sabre and antagonistics, which he now teaches at the Black Boar School of Swordsmanship and promotes through the Smallsword Symposium, an international gathering of smallsword enthusiasts.
