Helionyx

The “Helionyx” of Jacob’s Armory is a maple wooden core wrapped, initially, with four strands of cord.  One strand is then removed to create a crevasse after the grip is covered in thin leather.  That Crevasse, twisting down the length of the grip, is then wound with two strands of brass wire twisted right and two strands twisted left with two larger twisted strands of steel wire in between.  It is this winding series of twisted wires along with the black leather cover for which Dan Speaker (see below) has given it the name “Helionyx”.  Thanks Dan, and if anyone wants one they can ask for the Helionyx or the Dan Speaker special.

Aditionally:  A Helion meteoroid is a meteoroid that arrives from the approximate direction of the Sun. They are thought to originate as debris from sun-grazing comets.

Hélion de Villeneuve (c. 1270 – 1346) was a French-born Grand Master of the Knights of St. John. He was the brother of Saint Roseline.  He died on the island of Rhodes.  The blazon of his coat-of-arms was Gules six tilting spears in fretty, in-between the spears semy of escutcheons.  There is a legend told of Hélion involving a dragon and a young knight.

A helion is a short name for the naked nucleus of helium, a doubly positively charged helium ion. In practice, helion refers to the stable helium-3 nucleus, in opposition to the other stable nucleus helium-4, which is usually referred to as an alpha particle.

Our Guest administrator Dan Speaker has been fascinated with swords and weaponry all his life. Growing up he studied martial arts, fencing, and horseback riding. He became involved in theatre and began to study how to use combat in performance. While pursuing this he obtained a Diploma in Dramatic Art and a Fencing Coach’s credential from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

Working in theatre as an actor and fight choreographer, he met his future wife, dance choreographer turned swordswoman Jan Bryant. Together they moved to Hollywood and created a new method of teaching and choreographing the art of combat for film.

Dan is one of the top action and sword fight choreographers in film today. Go to Dan’s complete professional resume, or contact him at  (818) 364-8420 or by e-mail at dan@theatricalcombat.com.

Here's an ebony grip that is below the standard of what I'm happy to offer to the public so I've covered this with leather and wire to make another Helionyx.

Here it is with the leather and before the wire.

The person who gets this one gets a leather grip with a solid ebony core.
