Wednesday 1 July 1874. Went on the River in the evening & heard the band.

Thursday, 2 July 1874. Miss Wardle called.

Friday, 3 July 1874. Went by water & had tea at Drakelow, Miss Wardle invited us, our party consisted of the Miss salts, Mr C.salt, Miss Mahewell(?), Mr & Miss Daniel’s, J Wilkinson, Mr Hasbrouck &

we started at 4 o’clock & got home at 9 o’clock.

Saturday, 4 July 1874. Aunt Mary, mother & Charles arrived from Eyam at 3 o’clock. In the evening Bob & I went to see Miss Wardle.

Sunday, 5 July 1874. Went to St Paul’s morning & evening.

Monday, 6 July 1874. Went into my district.

Tuesday, 7 July 1874. Went to a district visitors meeting. Went on the River after tea.

Wednesday, 8 July 1874. Started at 12 o’clock for Bagot’s Park, had dinner at 2 o’clock & then strolled about the park, had tea at 6 o’clock & left at 7.30. Mr Barrington Wright & his son came to stay here.

Thursday 9 July 1874. We went on the River in the evening.

Friday, 10 July 1874. The Miss salts & Mr C.Salt, Mr & Mrs (???), Miss (???) came to lunch, we all went to Sayer’s(?) Circus afterwards; in the evening we took a walk.

Saturday, 11 July 1874. We fished & caught several perch.

Sunday 12/07/1874. Went to church morning & evening. Mr Wright preached & we had a collection for the school.

Monday, 13 July 1874. Lizzie, Charles & Miss Johnson dined here.

Tuesday, 14 July 1874. Aunt Emma Thornewill came here & took May back to Nottingham with her went on the rides in the evening.

Wednesday, 15 July 1874. Mr Wright left in the evening, we went up to see Miss Wardle.

Thursday, 16 July 1874. After dinner I called on Mrs Warham.

Friday, 17 July 1874. Went into my district.

Saturday, 18 July 1874. Bob went to Leeds.

Sunday, 19 July 1874. Went to church morning & evening. Mr E.Belcher preached.

Monday, 20 July 1874. Lizzie, Charles & Miss Johnson dined here, sat in the garden all the afternoon with Lizzie. Bob went to drill.

Sunday, 21 July 1874. Bob went to the volunteers inspection at Lichfield. Wrote to Polly.

Wednesday, 22 July 1874. Aunt Mary left. I went with Bob in the evening to see Miss Wardle. Heard from Maggie.

Thursday, 23 July 1874. Wrote to Maggie.

Friday, 24 July 1874. Miss Wardle came to spend the evening.

Saturday, 25 July 1874. Walked in the evening by the Branslow road to Drakelow.

Sunday, 26 July 1874. Went to church morning & evening. In the afternoon went to see Mrs Daniels.

Monday, 27 July 1874. Lizzie, Charles, Miss Johnson, Mr & Miss Daniels dined here. Went into my district.

Tuesday, 28 July 1874. Did not go beyond garden.

Wednesday, 29 July 1874. Went to church in the evening, & afterwards took a walk with Bob to Winshill.

Thursday, 30 July 1874. Mother left at 10 o’clock train. Went for a drive with Lizzie & the children. To walk in the evening. John W.& Mr Bridgeman came to supper.

Friday, 31 July 1874. Took a walk in the evening. Mr & Miss Daniels came to supper.

Saturday, 1 August 1874. Bob & I went for a walk after dinner & sat in the fields. Mother came home from Nottingham.

Sunday, 2 August 1874. Went to church in the morning & to St Paul’s in the evening.

Monday, 3 August 1874. Dear Surtees’s birthday. Went into my district & to seeHadham9?0. Lizzie confined this morning of a little girl.

Tuesday, 4 August 1874. Went to the district visitor meeting and to see Hadham(?).

Thursday, 6 August 1874. Three years today since dear Isabella died! We went for a walk in the evening.

Saturday, 8 August 1874. Isabella Rougemont’s birthday. Bob & I took a walk in the afternoon. Mrs Bamber came to dinner.

Sunday, 9 August 1874. Went to church morning & evening. Mother fell down and broke her rib.

Monday, 10 August 1874. Went into my district.

Tuesday, 11 August 1874. Went for a walk in the evening.

Wednesday, 12 August 1874. Went to see Miss Daniels & into the town.

Sunday, 16 August 1874. Went to church morning & evening.

Monday, 17 August 1874. Left Burton by the 8.43 train arriving at Euston at 12.55. We went to Sunderland Terrace. After lunch we went out driving, we got a present for Mrs Daniels & Mr Lockwood & I got my hat.

Tuesday, 18 August 1874. Cousin Charles called in Sunderland Terrace. We went to see Miss Rougemont, aunt Emily & Mrs Arnold. Left Victoria by the 4 o’clock train & arrived at Eastbourne at 6.07. Charlie, Mary & the children met us at the station. In the evening we went on the pier & to Mostyn Terrace.

Wednesday, 19 August 1874. Went to see Auntie after breakfast & then sat on the beach, dined at Mostyn Terrace.

Auntie took me to the Links.

Friday, 22 August 1874. Sat on the beach with Mary & in the afternoon went to the Whelpston’s garden.

Saturday, 22 August 1874. Went to see Georgie, dined with Auntie & we drove with her, Fanny & William to Willington & Sevington, in the evening we went on the Parade.

Sunday, 23 August 1874. Went to St saviours morning & afternoon & in the evening walked to Trish tower & had supper with Auntie. The Bramlys were there.

Monday, 24 August 1874. Sat on the beach in the morning. In the evening had supper with the Henry pages. Tuesday, 25 August 1874. Went to Paradise in the afternoon & had tea there. Mr Philpott, Mary & Charlie came to supper with us.

Wednesday, 26 August 1874. We went to Rye by the 12.38 train arrived at Hastings at 1 o’clock & stayed there till 4 o’clock. We walked up to the castle. Arrived at Rye at 4.17 Mr Wright & Freddie met us at the station. At 7 o’clock we went to the harvest thanksgiving, the church was decorated with fruit, flowers & vegetables. Dr Crosse preached the sermon.

Thursday 27th of August 1874. We left by by the 1.15 train for Eastbourne, changing at Hastings & Polegate. Had supper with Auntie.

Friday, 28 August 1874. Went on the beach in the morning & in the afternoon went to the bizarre, we were there till nearly 10 o’clock. Had supper at the Henry Page’s.

Saturday, 29 August 1874. Little Georgie’s birthday. Rainy morning. Went to see Auntie in the afternoon & had tea with her.

Sunday, 30 August 1874. Went to St Ssaviour’s morning & evening & sat on the beach in the afternoon with Georgie, Mary & Charlie.

Wednesday, 31 August 1874. Went to Paradise in the afternoon with Georgie, Richard, Jesse, Emma, etc. Fireworks in the evening. Mr Philpott, Charlie & Mary had supper with us.

Tuesday, 1 September 1874. Six years today since dear Surtees died! We went a large party to Hurstmonceux, had supper with Mary & Charlie.

Wednesday, 2 September 1874. Drove with Auntie, Fanny & Willie to Beachy Head. Bob, Georgie, Richard & Edie-based & met us there. We had supper with the Henry pages.

Thursday, 3 September 1874. Dined with Auntie. Called on Mrs Webster and & went to see Georgie. Supper with Mary Ann Charlie.

Friday 4 September 1874. Went to say goodbye to Auntie & aunt Georgiana. Left by the 12.33 train for St Leonards. Mary, Willie & Mr Philpott saw us off. Arrived at St Leonards at 1.17 & left again at 2.15 four Sevenoaks where we arrived at 3.53. Papa came to meet us. Dined at 6. 30.

Saturday, 5 September 1874. We walked to Knole Park. I took a short walk with Bob in the afternoon.

Sunday, 6 September 1874. Went to the parish church in the morning & stayed to the sacrament. After lunch we took a walk by Riverhead. In the evening Papa & Bob went there to church.

Monday, 7 September 1874. Went out for a walk. Left by the 1.28 train for Charing Cross, Popper saw us off. Arrived there about 20 minutes to 3 & drove to Euston, started at

3 o’clock arrived at Burton at 6:50 o’clock. Heard from Maggie.

Wednesday, 9 September 1874. Took a walk with Bob in the evening.

Thursday, 10 September 1874. Wrote to Maggie.

Friday, 11 September 1874. Charlie’s birthday. Went with Bob in the town & in the evening went to a dance at Ashfield.

Saturday, 12 September 1874. Charlie’s baby christened. Bob & I took a walk in the afternoon. Mr Bridgeman & his mother came to supper.

Sunday, 13 September 1874. Went to church morning & evening.

Monday, 14 September 1874 (my birthday). Had letters from aunt Caroline & aunt Margaret, Mary, Georgie. We started soon after 11 o’clock to get blackberries in Berkeley Park. Had tea with Miss Gilbert & Mr Ratcliffe. We(???) Home between 6 & 7 o’clock.

Tuesday, 15 September 1874. Charles, Lizzie & Miss Johnson dined here. After dinner we called on Mrs Bing.

Wednesday, 16 September 1874. Wet day. We spent the evening at theWarls(?). Florence & her mother were there.

Thursday, 17 September 1874. Took a short walk in the evening.

Friday, 18 September 1874. Went into my district. Walked with Bob to see some Coliopes(?). Called on Mrs Warren & in the evening we went to see Miss Wardle who was not at home. Mr Bridgeman came to supper.

Saturday, 19 September 1874. Bob went to drill with the volunteers & gave away the prizes for the last time.

Sunday, 20 September 1874. Went to church morning & evening.

Monday, 21 September 1874. Mr Lowe came to see me. Lizzie and Charles dined here.

Tuesday, 22 September 1874. Mr & Mrs Foster called.

Saturday, 26 September 1874. We went to Kings standing to call on Mr & Mrs Morris Richardson, had tea on the lawn. Heard from Mary of uncle Henry’s death which took place on Friday 25th at about 10:00 PM.

Sunday, 27 September 1874. Went to church morning & evening.

Monday 28th of September 1874. Lizzie & Charles dined here.

Tuesday, 29 September 1874 (Michaelmas Day). Wet afternoon. Miss Daniels & Miss Temple(?) spent the evening here.

Wednesday, 30 September 1874. We went for a drive.
