1873 Q2 - April, May, June

Tuesday, 1 April 1873. Dear Maggie’s birthday. Papa & I lunched in Norfolk Square & in the afternoon they had a meeting of Hendon proprietors. Mary called for me & I went with her to order my bonnet & mental. We dined at Sunderland Lodge. Mr Philpott came in the evening.

Norfolk Square & went out shopping with aunt Georgiana & Margaret.

Thursday, 3 April 1873. Lunched with Auntie. Went out in the carriage.

Friday, 4 April 1873. Lunched with Mary. Mrs Thornewill left.

Saturday, 5 April 1873. Walked with Papa to Norfolk Square. Went to see aunts.

Sunday, 6 April 1873. Went to church morning & evening & to S.Terrace & S.Lodge after lunch.

Monday, 7 April 1873. Left by the 3.58 train for Bognor, arrived at 6.10. Dined at 7 o’clock.

Tuesday, 8 April 1873. Walked into Bognor & went to see the Boileau[?]. Mr & Miss ?arling came in the ??.

Wednesday, 9 April 1873. Went to church & walked to Bognor.

Thursday, 10 April 1873. Went to church in the morning. Went for a walk & got primroses after dinner.

Friday, 11 April 1873 (Good Friday). Went to church morning & evening. General and Mrs Boileau called & we walked part of the way back with them.

Saturday, 12 April 1873. Went to church morning & afterwards walked to Bognor. Drove in the pony chaise with Mr Poole after dinner.

Sunday, 13 April 1873 (Easter Sunday). Went to church morning & evening. Mrs Sibley & Gwendolyn Jenkins dined with us.

Monday, 14 April 1873. Drove to Angle. Had lunch at Mrs Holmes. After lunch we went into the Park to see the Volunteer Review, reached home again about 7 o’clock.

Tuesday, 15 April 1873. Went to church at St Nicholas, walked with nearly & Miss Dean to Bognor. Had a game at croquet with Mr Poole.

Wednesday 16^th of April 1873. G.Warre’s wedding day. We dined at General Boileau’s. Drove to Chichester.

Thursday, 17 April 1873. Mrs Firmin[?] & her children, Mrs Howell field, Mrs Dow& MrsKnorr came to dinner. In the afternoon we played at croquet.

Friday, 18 April 1873. We drove to Goodwood & went to see the racecourse.

Saturday, 19 April 1873. Walked into Bognor with Papa, we came home by the sands. Played at croquet in the afternoon with Mr Poole. Mr Holmes came.

Sunday, 20 April 1873. Went to church morning & evening. After dinner walked with aunt Leticia towards Bognor.

Monday, 21 April 1873. General & Mrs Boileau, Mr and Miss Chambers, Miss Lapping[?] & Miss Jenkins came to dinner. Played at croquet afterwards.

Tuesday, 22 April 1873. Left Bognor by the 10.25 train arrived home a little before 2 o’clock. Went with Papa to see Mary & the aunts. Heard from dear Maggie.

Wednesday, 23 April 1873. Lunched & dined at S.Lodge. R.T.staying there.

Thursday, 24 April 1873. Went with Mary to Westbourne Grove to get a pattern of address for aunt Caroline. R.tea.left.

Friday, 25 April 1873. Wrote to dear Maggie. Lunched with Isabella.

Saturday, 26 April 1873. Lunched in Norfolk Square.

Sunday, 27 April 1873. Went to church morning & evening. Called on Mrs Norman, John Robinson & Mrs Arnold. Went to see Mary & Charlie.

Monday, 28 April 1873. Went to the Crystal Palace with Mary, Charlie & the

children. Papa & I dined at Sunderland Lodge. Mary’s birthday.

Tuesday, 29 April 1873. Collected in my district. After lunch called on MrsBadnall, Mrs Sands, the Miss Rougemont’s & Mrs child.

Wednesday, 30 April 1873. Lunched & dined in Norfolk Square. After lunch went out driving with aunt Georgiana.

Thursday, 1 May 1873. Lunched with the Nobles. After lunch went to S.Lodge & walked with Mary to Kensington, we had tea at Scarsdale house. Charlie & Mary dined with us.

Friday two may 1873. Went to Westbourne Grove & to see Mary.

Saturday, 3 May 1873. Sent blankets in. After lunch walked with Papa to Sunderland Terrace. Mrs Norman T.Robinson & Isabella R. called on us.

Sunday, 4 May 1873. Went to church morning & evening. After lunch went to see the Nobles & to Norfolk Square.

Monday, 5 May 1873. Wet day. Collected in my district.

Tuesday, 6 May 1873. Lunched in Sussex Square. Went out driving with Auntie & Fanny, they walked part of the way home with me.

Wednesday, 7 May 1873. Lunched with Mrs kingdon.

Thursday, 8 May 1873. Lunched with Mary. She walked part of the way home with me.

Friday, 9 May 1873. Lunched with the Nobles & went out driving with aunt Matilda & Agnes. Mary called for me at 5 o’clock & we walked to S.Lodge. Papa & I dined there.

Saturday, 10 May 1873. Lunched with Isabella Rougemont, walked with her & the children to the park & met Herbert. We sat down there. I went to Norfolk Square to meet Papa & we

Sunday 11 may 1873. Went to church morning & evening. After lunch we walked to the cemetery.

Monday, 12 May 1873. Went to S.Lodge & stayed the night. Mr & MrsCoro[?] & Harry Hamilton dined there.

Tuesday 13 may 1873. Went to see my aunts. After lunch we went to see Mrs Norman & Isabella Robinson. Mary walked part of the way home with me.

Wednesday, 14 May 1873. After lunch walked with Papa to see my aunts & Mary.

Thursday, 15 May 1873. Went with Mary to see tourers pictures in Bond Street. Papa & I dined in S.Lodge.

Friday, 16 May 1873. Emily Warre’s birthday. I lunched with the Nobles. We went out driving & saw the Princess.

Saturday, 17 May 1873. I lunched in Sussex Square. Went out driving after lunch, called on the Mitchells, Nobles & Isabella.

Sunday, 18 May 1873. Papa’s birthday. Went to church morning & evening. Dined in Norfolk Square & went to St Michael’s.

Monday, 19 May 1873. Went to meet Mary in Palace Gardens. She & Charlie & George Boileau dined here and Mr Philpott & Charlie. (R.T.) came in the evening.

Tuesday, 20 May 1873. Lunched with the Nobles, Ellen Elles was with them. Emma, Agnes & I went to see Auntie, afterwards went for a drive & they took me home.

Wednesday, 21 May 1873. Wet day did not go out.

Thursday, 22 May 1873 (Ascension day). Went to church in the morning & afternoon.

Friday, 23 May 1873 dined in Sunderland Terrace.

Saturday, 24 May 1873. Queen’s Birthday. Went with Charlie & little C.to zoological gardens. Had tea with them afterwards & Charlie walked home with me.

Sunday 25^th of May 1873. Went to church morning & evening. After lunch went to Norfolk Square & called on the Nobles.

Monday, 26 May 1873. Papa & I dined with Mr & Mrs child. Mr Evelt[?] Also dined there.

Tuesday, 27 May 1873. Little Charlie came to stay with us. I walked with him to the Queen’s Road. I dined with the Nobles & went with them to a party in Norfolk Square.

Wednesday, 28 May 1873. Mary’s birthday. I lunched in Sussex Square. Went for a drive with Auntie Bella & Fanny.

Thursday, 29 May 1873. Went to see the Miss Rougemont’s. Mrs Sands called. Charlie & R.T.dined here.

Friday, 30 May 1873. Charlie & I walked to the Nobles. We went for a drive with them & they left us in Kensington.

Saturday, 31 May 1873. Charlie & I lunched with the aunts.

Sunday, 1 June 1873. Went to church morning & evening.

Monday, 2 June 1873. Lunched with little Charlie in Sussex Square. Went home in the carriage with Fanny & the children.

Tuesday, 3 June 1873. Lunched at Scarsdale house.

Wednesday, 4 June 1873. Went to the cemetery with little Charlie. After lunch little C.left. I went with Papa to the horticultural flower show & in the evening dined with the Miss

Rougemonts[1]. Mr & Mrs Twing[?] Rougemont were there & brought me home in their carriage.

Thursday, 5 June 1873. Went to church with Mary.

Friday, 6 June 1873. Lunched & dined at S.Lodge.

Saturday, 7 June 1873. Walked with Papa after church to Sunderland Terrace. Mary & Charlie walked part of the way home with us.

Sunday, 8 June 1873. Went to church morning & evening. After lunch went to see the Nobles & to Norfolk Square.

Monday, 9 June 1873. Went with Mary to Marshall & Snelgrove.

Tuesday, 10 June 1873. Lunched with the Nobles. Afterwards went to see Auntie’s. The Nobles drove me home.

Wednesday, 11 June 1873. Left by the 3.40 train from Paddington, arrived at Lymington at 6.25. Gertrude & her husband met me at the station & we drove to Lillington.

Thursday, 12 June 1873. After lunch we drove to Kenilworth Castle and went over the ruins. Mr Lindam & Mr Milne dined here.

Friday, 13 June 1873. We drove to Warwick.

Saturday, 14 June 1873. We drove to Grey’s Cliff & walked home through the fields.

Sunday, 15 June 1873. We went to church morning & afternoon. Had tea with Mrs King.

Monday, 16 June 1873. Gertrude & I walked into Leamington.

Tuesday, 17 June 1873. We went to Birmingham to the agricultural show.

Wednesday, 18 June 1873. We drove into Leamington.

Thursday, 19 June 1873. We drove to Coventry & went to St Michael’s

& “Trinity” churches and went over St Mary’s Hall.

Friday, 20 June 1873. Dear little Ethel good is a year old. We walked into Leamington. In the afternoon drove through Stoneleigh Park.

Saturday, 21 June 1873. Polly’s birthday. We drove to Warwick & went over St Mary’s Church & Leicester hospital.

Sunday, 22 June 1873. Went to church morning & afternoon & took a walk after service.

Monday, 23 June 1873. Left Leamington by the 10 o’clock train for Burton, arrived a little before 1 o’clock. After dinner we drove to??? Went on the River in the evening.

Tuesday, 24 June 1873. We went to a picnic at Bagot’s Park, had our dinner under the “beggars oak”.

Wednesday, 25 June 1873. We drove to stay open Hill & went in a boat in the evening to hear the band.

Thursday, 26 June 1873. Mrs Thornewill Charles and to send his wife, Mr fellow & I went to Repton to hear the speeches & we had lunch at Dr Pear’s house. After lunch they sang please on the lawn & then played at cricket. We had tea with the Miss salt. & Came home by train.

Friday, 27 June 1873. In the evening Mrs Thornewill & I went to see Mr Bassi’s church (St Paul’s). After dinner we drove to Wichnor[?]. In the evening[?] Went on the ???.

Saturday, 28 June 1873. Left Burton at 4.23 & arrived at Lymington at seven (via Birmingham).
