A victory for Bedale would give them the title. Through a twist of results the team failing to achieve their goal would end up third in the table, Albert having grabbed the runners up birth. Bramham started the game strongly and dominated the early stages, playing downhill and with the wind behind them. Bedale looked solid and as usually dangerous on the break. Following good work on the right by Jones a low cross found Wright unmarked and he slotted home on 14 minutes to give the visitors an early lead. Bedale came more into the game and Lloyd was kept busy but never troubled in the Bramham goal. On 35 minutes Wright collected the ball on the edge of the area, shielded well and layed off a pass to Alker who fired home from 20 yards to put Bramham two up at the break. In the second half it was Bedale who dominated much of the play, without really threatening to score, but the game was back in the melting pot when the usually dependable Lloyd misjudged a wicked bounce on the ball which soared over his head for a soft goal. This set up a tense finish as Bedale sensed they may yet be able to turn this game around, but Bramham were rock solid and restricted the home side to the odd half chance. 9 minutes injury time seemed like a lifetime for those on the Bramham bench but the visitors were well organised on the day and always looked likely to contain a below par Bedale and retain the title.
