Bramham 7 Harold Styans 1

by By Paul Firth - 08:06 on 12 December 2006

Team:

Mark Tasker, Danny Ewen, Colin Maltby, John Carrier, Andy Linyard, Matty Dodsworth(c), Phil Alker, Mark Hick, Paul Smith, Gareth Hughes, Jason Wright. --- Ryan Dowson, Joe Farthing, Paul Firth.

Following last weeks impressive display against Masham Bramham fielded much the same team with just one enforced change following the late illness to Richard Robinson. This gave Danny Ewen his chance to shine in his favoured defensive position.

Having been held to a 2-2 draw only 3 weeks ago away to the same team, Bramham had a point to prove and a win was imperative to keep our promotion push moving in the right direction.

Bramham once again employed a three, five, two formation which worked effectively at Masham. With Linyard and Smith pushing on down the flanks the pattern of the game was set early on. Styans soaked up the early storm but were only able to hang on past ten minutes before the pressure told and Jason Wright bagged his first of the afternoon following good work down the flank and some nice interplay with Gareth Hughes. Styans were a shadow of the team that held Bramham in their last meeting and it came as no surprise when Phil Alker added the second following a goal mouth scramble. Styans keeper was thankful for the positioning of the uprights which kept out fine efforts from Hughes and Hick in the first half, However it was no surprise when Hughes, with a fine solo effort, and Wright added further goals in the first half to enable Bramham to go in at half time 4-0 up.

It was a much improved Styans that entered the field for the second half, following a severe dressing down at half time, and a little push and shove action between team mates, which seemed to spur them on.

Bramham found it tough to break down the styans defence and it seemed that a little complaicancy had crept into the play. The management rang the changes and Smith and Maltby were replaced for Dowson and Farthing which had immediete effect. Following good work from Farthing and unselfish work from Dowson Bramham added further goals from Linyard and a second for Gareth Hughes.

A momentary lapse from stand in defender Matty Dodsworth presented Styans with their only real chance of the game which despite a scrambling effort from Tasker in goal they tucked away neetly. This was never going to unsettle the title charge that Bramham now find themselves on and it was only a matter of time before Wright added his third to bag a deserved Hat Trick.

Another fine team display, with fine individual displays from John Carrier, Colin Maltby, Mark Hick, Jason Wright and Gareth Hughes. John Carrier was outstanding for the second week running in the newly formed back three formation, Giggsy didn't get the goal his box to box football deserved and Gareth Hughes is finally returning to confident flowing footballer we all saw in the first quarter of the season.

This result takes the current unbeaten run to seven games and with a busy christmas calender of league games to follow Bramham could find themselves where they belong very shortly.

Man of match - John Carrier (Management) Jason Wright (Commitee)
