With Alker, Hicks and Dodsworth all missing from midfield and Mark Tasker still carrying a knock, the Bramham side which took the field looked light in experience, but proved to be totally committed as they outfought and outplayed high flying Bedale Town.

Mick Wright and Paul Firth had the tactics spot on  for this clash of last seasons champions and runners up and the afternoon showed the emerging talent of Joe Farthing who never looked out of sorts in this company.

Bedale had the early possession but the Bramham defence set their stall out, tackled everything that moved and looked rock solid. At the other end the pace of Dowson coupled with the strength of Wright and Carrier were always likely to cause problems for the visitors.

On 25 minutes a clear handball resulted in a penalty which Wright despatched to give the home side the lead. He added a second on 42 minutes to send Bramham in with a comfortable lead at the break.

Bedale are a resilient outfit and again had long spells of pressure as they tried to get back into the game. They were awarded a penalty on 55 minutes but Tasker made a fine save and the rebound was squandered by the onrushing forwards. 10 minutes later however they did score from the spot and a sweetly taken free kick on 68 minutes had them level. Apart from these set pieces Bramham were rarely troubled with Robinson and Smith an excellent pairing at centre back. Andy Linyard replaced Edson at left back for the closing stages and he looked much sharper than in recent weeks and had a very effective last 20.

Danny Ewen was outstanding at right back, timing tackle after tackle with perfection, what a revelation he was, unrecognisable from the player that trooped of at Thirsk just 3 weeks earlier.

The last 20 minutes were all Bramham. They stepped up their game to a new level and looked every inch the champions they are for the first time this season. The quick feeted Ryan Dowson skipped passed two defenders and crashed home from 8 yards

The power of Wright and Carrier meant that it was all hands to the pump for the Bedale defence, but in the end they were simply overrun, by some quick interchanges and fine finishing. When many would lose their heads, Jason Wright shows a calmness in front of goal which is rare at this level and wrapped up the afternoon with two further goals of high quality.

This Bedale team are not second in the league for nothing and having beaten Bramham on 3 occassions last year, it was sweet revenge but more than that it underlined that on this form and with several key players absent, Bramham look very capable of mounting a serious title challenge after a slow start to the campaign
