Bramham 4 Thorpe United 3

by Unknown - 18:54 on 18 September 2010

Once again Bramham were forced to make changes with Kenan Bailey and Tesfa Walton both absent but with Simon Wright able to make an appearance.

There was little between the two sides in a hard fought first half, with chances few and far between as the two sides sized each other up.

The game exploded in the second half into a 7 goal thriller and it was the visitors who drew first blood. Following a scramble in the 6 yard box they forced the ball over the line but with two of their own players on the Bramham goal line it is difficult to comprehend how they could not have been offside as there were no defenders close by.

Bramham dug in and where deservedly level on the hour mark when Stapleton headed in following a corner and they went ahead 5 minutes later when Evans crashed the ball home from 20 yards.

The game see- sawed as Thorpe struck back with a lob over the keeper from the angle of the penalty area. Bramham then regained the lead with 15 minutes remaining when Brook broke away down the right flank and crossed where Simon Wright slid the ball home.

There was more to come as Thorpe broke away and a stunning drive from 40 yards flew over Leach in the Bramham goal to put the game back in the balance.

Evans who had a quiet first half was constantly causing problems down the Bramham left and it was fitting that he latched onto a crossfield ball two minutes from time to see Bramham through to the next round.

Whittaker was once again outstanding alongside the reliable Hutchinson, while Danny Greensmith put in a tireless shift in midfield with great support from the energetic Collins.
