Kirk Deighton 3 Bramham 2

by Unknown - 21:32 on 24 August 2010

The appointed official failed to turn up for this  Derby clash and a local referee was called in to officiate in what was always likely to be an explosive encounter. The visitors accepted the appoitment purely on the basis that several of their players had travelled considerable distances to attend this mid week fixture and as such were left with little option other than to play.

Nathan Christopher, John Crawley, Marcus Stapleton and Steve Davis were all absent. Bramham  started poorly and found themselves 2 goals down at the break due to some woeful defending and their inability to take any of the several chance they created. Bramham had the lions share of the possession, but time and again the final pass or strike at goal found them wanting.

In the second half Bramham were a more potent force and a superb strike from Gavin Evans reduced the deficit on the hour mark. Jonny Walton once again outstanding  scored what can only be described as one of the best goals ever seen in this league. He fired the ball high into the angle of bar and post from all of 25 yards, with such venom that those privilidge to see it could only stand an applaud, a goal of the season for any season.

Had this game ended in a draw then everyone would have left in good spirits but there was a twist in the tail when Deighton broke forward and Fisher at the heart of the defence appeared to be tugged to the ground outside the area only to see the referee signal "play on" to secure the points for the home side.

Bramham acted in good faith in playing this game, but went away agrieved at the outcome. The reality is if they had defended better and taken their chances the outcome would not have been in question
