Bramham 2 Kirk Deighton 1

by Unknown - 20:58 on 21 April 2010

Bramham completed their League campaign with a 2-1 win over local rivals Kirk Deighton to complete a double over their neighbours for the first time in several seasons.

Johnny Waltons absence through injury provided the opportunity for Danny Jacklyn to take over in midfield as Bramham welcomed back keeper Zealand allowing Jason Wright to return to his customery strikers role.

There was little between the two sides for much of the evening with Bramham having the lions share of the possession but Deighton always dangerous on their rapid counter attacks.

It was from one such raid that Deighton were awarded a corner and as the Bramham defence stood motionless, Deighton were in to score from close range and take the lead as the sides turned around at half time.

The opening stages of the second half mirrored much of what had gone before, but there was a little more creativity from the Bramham midfield with Smith changing positions with Jacklyn who turned in a solid performance at left back,

Stapleton came more into the game and he had Bramham level on 65 minutes following tireless work down the right flank.

Chris Pert, quiet for much of the evening, showed just how dangerous he can be, for having set up the Stapleton goal he had a growing influence as Bramham continued to probe the visitors defence.

Deighton were solid at the back and dominated much of the aerial play that came their way and they were ever watchful of the dangerous Jason Wright, who flashed a shot just inches over the bar on 80 minutes.

It was then Gavin Evans turn to secure the win but he shot over from close range, scant reward for a good performance from him.

The smell of a goal was in the air and it was ex Huddersfield starlet Chris Pert who sealed the win with a stunning strike high into the roof of the net.

There were solid performances all around with Hutchinson and Wright busy but able to restrict the visitors to a couple of half chances. Crawley  was a dominant force in midfield and Barry Dodsworth looked sharp all evening and a real threat when advancing from his right back position
