Kirkby Malzeard 2 Bramham 1

by Unknown - 17:56 on 30 January 2010

Bramham were forced into a late reshuffle with key striker Jason Wright caught in Heavy Traffic, but had the better of the early exchanges and could have gone ahead on 15 minutes when Simon Wright volleyed from close range, only to see his effort clear the bar.

It was against the run of play when Hawikns slipped and in recovering was cautioned for a foul just outside the penalty area. Kirkby took the lead with a fine strike and were the dominant force for the remainder of the half on a trecherous surface.

They went further ahead on 30 minutes when Bramham failed to deal with a high ball in the area, to give the home side a 2 goal lead at the break

Jason Wight accompanied his namesake Simon in attack in the second phase and Bramham looked a much more potent force. Both keepers were kept busy and pulled off fine saves as the game switched from end to end.

On 75 minutes Simon Wright broke away on the left flank and picked out Jason Wright with a superb cross and the prolific striker slotted home  for the visitors.

The explosive Stapleton had an increasing impact on the game with his pace too hot for the home side and a superb run and cross set up J Wright for a volley which skimmed the bar in the closing stages.

Referee David Harwood had a fine game and rightly awarded Bramham a free kick when Stapleton was brought down on the edge of the box. Wright blasted the ball goalbound only to see his effort  stopped by the a raised arm in the wall, clear for all to see, for a stonewall penalty.

To the astonishment of all in the vicinity, the referee signalled play on to the delight of the homeside and the dissapointment of the visitors.

It may prove a costly decision to all concerned as the Championship race hots up.

There was little between these two sides who both deserve credit for serving up some good football on a frozen pitch
