Pateley Bridge 4 Bramham 2

by Unknown - 18:33 on 05 December 2009

Phil Zealand, Joe Collins, Jon Walton, Chis Elliott, Jerry Hawkins, Dave Malkinson, Simon Wright and Chris Pert  were all absent as a depleted Bramham arrived at Pateley Bridge and inevitably they knew they were in for a difficult afternoon with so many regulars unavailable.

The playing surface was far from that which Bramham generally enjoy and with just 11 players their resources were paired to the bone. Nevertheless they took the field dug deep and for much of this encounter were the equal of the home side.

Pateley took the lead on 10  minutes with a fine strike, and as Duffield in the Bramham goal lost his footing on the trecherous surface the ball flew past him.

Jason Wright had the visitors level with a sweetly struck free kick from 25 yards  and the sides turned around all square. The Bramham defence had worked overtime as they defended their goal superbly and always looked like to pinch a goal on the break. Early in the second half however their luck deserted them as Davis slipped in the mud to let Pateley in for a second.

With their tails up Pateley grabbed a 3rd before Wright converted a penalty when Stapleton was brought down with 10 minutes to go, but Pateley rounded off the afternoon with a fourth before the whistle.

Whilst disappointed with the result, Pateley are a major force in this league and Bramham can take a lot of pride out of a battling performance today. Maxted in particular comfortably making the step up from 2nd team football and Duffield outstanding at times in goal behind a tireless defence
