Bramham 4 Riccall 3

by Niall Matheson - 20:14 on 16 September 2006

Bramham started their Barkston Ash campaign in fine style with Ryan Dowson opening the scoring after just 8 minutes.

Dowson and Hughes caused trouble throughout the first half with slick movement and clever interchanges and at times threatend to overrun the Riccall defence.

Paul Smith on debut was impressive and added a new dimension on the left flank and it was no surprise when first Dowson and then Alker had Bramham 3 up by the break.

Riccall should have been out of this game but Bramham eased off and found themselves back peddling as the vistors immediately pulled a goal back. It was against the run of play that Dowson broke away, only to be brought down for a stonewall penalty cooly converted by Garry Hughes.

Bramham couldn't shake off a resilient Riccal side who scored 2 further goals and it was the Bramham officials who were looking at their watches in the final stages, but Bramham progressed through to the next round and undoubtedly deserved their win, but they made hard work of it!
