A Singing Day ~ Fri 22nd

Day 7 1/2 - 2pm

The Singing Ringing Tree
Francesco Stefani | Germany | 1957 | 74 min | Cert U

A prince, a quest, a strange land behind a waterfall, a huge goldfish, a tree that trills.  The East German fantasy film that entranced and haunted a generation of British kids when it was shown on TV.  See it on the big screen, its colour palette of turquoises and pinks beautifully restored.  We’re showing it with the English language narration because we think it even more strange and lovely!

Day 7 1/2 - 7pm

Singin’ in the Rain
Stanley Donen & Gene Kelly | USA | 1952 | 103 min | Cert U

We’ll end our singing day with one of the 20th Century’s most infectious works of art and the film world’s most joyous self-satire.  What’s your favourite bit? “I kent sten ‘im”?  Donald O’Connor in 'Make ‘Em Laugh?'  Debbie, Gene and Donald’s bubbly 'Good Mornin’'?  Or Gene alone, in that street at night, in a downpour, singing because life’s great?  When it’s finished shall we rewind it and watch again?  Let’s hope it’s raining in Nairn on 22nd of August, so we can dance our way down the High Street.

Plus Joris Ivens' brilliant 1929 silent short Rain.
