Local Studies
21 April 2012

On the evening of 19th April, 15 people from the Kilmun History Group met at The Argyll & Bute Council Library H.Q. where the Local Studies collection is held. We are very lucky to have this wonderful facility on our doorstep.

The Information and Local Studies Librarian  is Eleanor McKay, who warmly welcomed everyone and then described the collection and how everything is catalogued and filed. She gave information about the separate Council Archives service, and answered questions on particular items in both collections. We were then treated to a tour and given access to the books, maps photographs and other items on the shelves, as well as being shown how to use the on-line catalogue and ordering system.

Every single person very quickly found something of interest to read or look at, and over two hours later it was quite a job to persuade people that it was time to go home. There is no doubt that everyone who attended will be back to make good use of the facility, and thanks are due to Eleanor who is a most enthusiastic, knowledgeable and enthusiastic guardian of the wonderful material in her care.

If anyone missed the visit, Eleanor can arrange individual visits to explain use of the Library and you will be assured of a warm welcome, but please phone to arrange an appointment as Eleanor covers the whole of Argyll and is not always in her office.
