COMMON GROUND

THE GOLDEN RULE

a) The Human Club: www.humanclub.org/golden_rule.htm

“Do unto others as you would have it done unto you - because you and the other are one.  Therefore, what you do to another, you are doing to yourself.”  This Golden Rule, now enhanced and more complete, is to be found in all of the major belief systems of the world.

Baha’i - Lay not on any soul a load that you would not wish to be laid on you, and desire not for anyone the things that you would not desire for yourself.

Buddhism - Treat not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful.

Christianity - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Confucianism - Do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself.

Hinduism - This is the sum of duty: do not do to others what would cause pain if done to you.

Islam - Not one of you truly believes until you wish for others what you wish for yourself.

Jainism – One should treat all creatures in the world as one would like to be treated.

Judaism - What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbour.  This is the whole Torah; all the rest is commentary.

Sikhism - Don’t create enmity with anyone as God is within everyone.

Shintoism – Hurt not others with that which pains yourself.  The heart of the person before you is a mirror.  See there your own form.”

Taoism - Regard your neighbour’s gain as your own gain; and regard your neighbour’s loss as your own loss, even as though you were in their place.”

b)  But this is not the only similarity that exists between religions.  For, as Acharya S says in ‘Suns of God: Krishna, Buddha and Christ Unveiled’, pages 558-559 (Book List 2, www.moreadvancedsociety.com), their very origins are also shared:

“The investigation of religion and mythology reveals that, while on the surface human religions and creeds appear to be disparate and divisive, the majority of them have the same roots in nature and astral worship.  In actuality, most of the world’s religions have been stellar, lunar, soli-lunar and solar, reflecting astro-theology, or the worship of the heavens and planetary bodies.”
