CHURCH VISITS

On a number of Sunday mornings, just after the 2017 New Year started, I attended a variety of church services, ranging from the very traditional to the evangelical.  (And, were I living in a more cosmopolitan area, these respectful visits of mine would have included other religious establishments as well!)

I did this in order to see for myself exactly what is going on in these ‘places of worship.’  After all, these faith systems have not exactly brought about a peaceful world!

Findings

While each denomination undoubtedly does good work within their community and, sometimes, further afield, I kept hearing the same old message being delivered, no matter how it is presented, i.e.:

love ‘The Lord, our God’ (of the ancient past and nobody else’s);

follow the scriptures (even though, in places, they may be inaccurate);

sing a number of hymns (based on the incomplete knowledge of their time);

say a few prayers (thereby encouraging and promoting ‘wishful thinking’);

and, listen to the sermon (containing well-meaning but distracting and impractical stories about making the world a better place.)

And so, I am left wondering:  when will all religions bring themselves up to date in the light of new and rediscovered knowledge about ‘Unity’?

Then, perhaps, once this has been achieved, every local Church, Mosque, Gurdwara, Temple and Synagogue, etc., could be called ‘A House of Love’ and their larger, centralised ones ‘Palaces of Unity’?
