Field meetings start at 9.30am, meeting outside the car park of St Leonard's Community Hall unless otherwise stated. Don't forget to bring your camera to take that all-important shot for the Photographic Competition. Beginners especially welcome as others will help. Walks are free for members, there is a £2 fee for visitors. 

Please note that members are welcome to car share with each other, and for passengers we give a guide to a suitable cost contribution for the car owner.



Sun 23rd June - 2pm. ‘Pewit Coronation Meadows NR’/ Straw’s Bridge/ Manor Floods, Ilkeston. Meet at 2pm at the former golf course car park on West End Drive, approx. postcode: DE7 5GH (w3w.co/crew.thank.school). Nigel Downes will lead a walk to see how the rewilding of the former Pewit golf course is progressing, looking for insects, wildflowers etc. Followed by - weather permitting - a garden party at Nigel & Penny’s house in Ilkeston to celebrate their house, ‘Holyrood’ 46 Wharncliffe Road, Ilkeston being 120 years old!

Mon 15th July - A visit to the Botanic Garden, Leicester. 3 Glebe Road, Oadby LE2 2LD. Meet at the entrance at 10.30am. 16 acres of lovingly cultivated grounds and greenhouses, display a wide variety of features and environments. The formal planting centres around a restored Edwardian garden. Other planting includes an arboretum, an impressive herb garden, woodland and herbaceous borders, rock gardens, a water garden, special collections of Skimmia, Aubrieta, and hardy Fuchsia, and a series of glasshouses displaying temperate and tropical plants, alpines and succulents.

The plant collections and landscape features make this garden one of the most diverse in the region.

A lot of benches, so the plan is to take a picnic to eat in the grounds. Possibility of visiting the Attenborough Arboretum in the afternoon – Led by Nigel Downes
