Annual Competition 2011

This years competition had 11 members entering with a total of 82 bottles. Full results are held in the Competition Folder in the Library.

The Judges' comments were generally that it was a good show overall, with some exceptionally nice wines and some interesting wines. there were, of course, some wines that were not so good but for a club show the standard was high.

Inter-Circle Competition

Five Circles attended to compete for the trophy; Beith, Holytown, Kilmarnock, Stamperland and the host Circle, Paisley. Each Circle had to enter four bottles; one each of, table white Dry, Table Red Dry, White Medium Sweet and Red Medium Sweet. The judging was difficult as no faults could be found in any of the entries and all were of a high standard. The competing Circles had obviously drawn on their best wines. Kilmarnock and Stamperland tied for first place, so it was necessary to go for Best Wine in Show, This went to Stamperlan for their Table White Dry.

The winning wine was made by Jim Lamond from Trebbiano grapes obtained from the Glasgow Fruit Market in early September. Stamperland has a Sicilian member who advised not to ferment on the skins but to use only the juice. Others using this grape may wish to try this method.

While the judging was in progress, John Queen dispensed eight bottles of wine for tasting and discussion.

Those present then enjoyed a n excellent buffet supper and had time to have some discussion among friends. It only remained for Stamperland to take the trophy back to their Circle, where it had remained for the previous year.

Thanks were given by the Circles present for an enjoyable evening. Paisley can chalk this one up as another success.
