This was a very good presentation highlighting some of the changes that are taking place in the way that vines are matured, the methods of harvesting and the none use of chemicals. Pieter received warm applause from the members who benefited from a tasting but from the educational experience. Wines Reviewed Gewerztraminer Organically grown - no sulphur used Sweetness on the palate Single vineyard in Trentino - Slightly drier than its equivalent in Alsace Vine Charismabiodinamico deremeter Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC Orsogna Organically grown - no sulphur used Carries a Demeter logo of quality Biodinamico certified - not allowed to spray - creating healthier vines Winner of the Merano Award 2015 Gran Passions Veneto This rich, deeply coloured red is made from 60% Merlot and 40% Corvina from select vineyards in Veneto. In homage to the Amarone wines of Valpoliclla the vines are cut but the grapes are left to dry naturally on the vine, a method known as Appassimento. The result is a rich luscious nose full of sweet, ripe dark cherry, plum, vanilla and Christmas spice. The body is rich and velvety, with lots of juicy fruit 'Il Passo' Nerello Mascalese/Nero d'Avola This is a young estate, with vineyards planted 5 years ago on the hills around Lake Arancio in Sambuca di Sicilia in southwestern Sicily. As with Vigneti del Vulture, this is another example of pepole planting vineyards and building a winery without the necessary expertise to make wines the market required. Enter Valentino Sciotti and his team of young winemakers, who have been able to take the raw materials and, as customers of Gran Sasso, Vesevo know, transform them into wines that people want to drink. Grown in volcanic soils Club members Bernard Shieff and Giovanni Baronello also provided bottles for tasting, which was well received by members.

Stamperland 40th Anniversary Celebrations in Clarkston Halls The Cake
We opened the new session with a cake made and kindly presented by our member, Elizabeth Rodger. A work of art too good to eat!! - but we ate it - and it was as good as it looks. Paradise for a chocaholic.
Our 40th Anniversary Celebration was well received by all attending. Thanks go to the willing helpers in the kitchen who prepared and dished out the food. Reminiscences by the longer serving members, who could cast their minds back to the seventies was interesting to everyone, including our friends from Milngavie and Paisley Wine Circles. Music of the seventies played in the background - and to cap it all, we had four new members attending for the first time. It would be nice to think that we can continue to attract more younger members and continue for another 40 years.
