Eric was born on 14 September 1901, the elder son of Rev. Armar Corry Vully de Candole and Edith Hodgson.
He was educated at Aldenham School, Elstree, Hertfordshire, and Worcester College, Oxford.
He was with the Sudan Political Service from 1923 to 1946, when he was appointed Administrator of Cyrenaica and Somalia,. In 1951 bcame Advisor to King Idris of Libya until he retired in 1954.
On 7 September 1932 Eric married Marion Elizabeth "Betty" Pender nee Roberts in St. Martin's, London.
They had three sons:-
John Armar was born 1 October 1933
Charles Anthony was born 10 December 1951
Mark Andrew was born 15 april 1953
He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) and Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.)
He was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.)
Eric died 12 June 1989, registered in Bournemouth.
Marion Elizabeth "Betty" Pender Roberts
"Betty" was born the daughter of Major Henry Constable Roberts, and was brought up at Château d'Epagne, France.
There is a mystey here - I don't know whence came "Pender"
