New VHI Procedure

From May 20th, 2018, it will be necessary to declare that your car is a Vehicle of Historic Interest, every time that you apply for a VED License. This has to be done using a form V112 every year, either at the Post Office, or via an online portal. Where vehicle keepers first apply for the historic vehicle tax class, it must be done at a Post Office. If you are declaring that your vehicle is exempt from MOT, you will need to complete a V112 declaration form, taking into consideration the substantially changed guidelines. Further re-licensing applications, including making subsequent declarations that the vehicle does not require an MOT, can be completed online.

If you do not make the declaration, you will be required to provide a current MOT at the point of licensing.

It is not necessary to make an immediate declaration via V112, only when your VED is due, which could be several months on from May 20th.
