Trip to National Railway Museum York.

Brian Moorcroft has done it again! A most enjoyable trip to the National Railway Museum at York was well organized by Brian who should be congratulated. I know from feedback from many people on the trip just how much we appreciated and enjoyed the day.

The day started at 09:00 picking various people up along the route and after a short coffee stop we arrived at York around midday being dropped right outside the main entrance to the Museum, so nice not to have to drive and then find a parking space. We were given till 16:00 to explore the many trains and fascinating memorabilia on display. The highlight of the day for me was to see the Flying Scotts Man in its underwear! I had better explain! The Scotts Man is midway along a completer refurbishment and was in many bits, each in turn being made good and ready for the next ten or so years work, when the refurbishment is completed the Flying Scotts Man’s finish is to be in her war time livery of well! MAT BLACK.

Waking over to the Platform part of the Exhibits just brought it all back to just how the Railways used to be and how massive an organization it was. This part of the Museum has some of the Royal carriages on display oh! How the other half lived! I don’t remember such splendors as an AC2 Airman sitting on my kitbag in the corridor when traveling home on leave but I do remember the BR buffet tea and Sandwich’s! Enough said about that.

The walk around the various halls was greatly enhanced for me as I had the good sense to latch onto Laurence Eccles who’s knowledge about the Railways and Engineering in general is just outstanding and greatly enhance my enjoyment of the days outing, answering my many questions without a moment’s hesitation, Thanks Laurence.

I suspect by 16:00 most of us, if we were honest, was starting to flag a little and ready for the trip home and after a short 10 min stop on the way back we arrived around 18:30.

Where else can you get such a long days entertainment for such little cost. A very well done Brian!

Now where’s the next trip too?
