I will use this page to keep a 'blog', with pictures, of the rambles for the 2014 season.
Balmacara and Diurinish woodlands
by Anthony Stringfellow - 22:07 on 13 May 2014
Lucy and I took a trip to Balmacara where we went on a nice 16km scooter ramble. Taking the Plockton/Diurinish road away from the square and turning right at the top of the hill on single-track road. Generally quiet along this road just need to look for passing places. Take the next right after Diurnish, past the holiday lodges and up the hill to a right turn that leads to Achnandarach, then along the peaceful Loch Achaid na h-Inich. (the loch with the crannog).
Here is a locked gate, which the forestry key will open. The terrain for a short time is rough here, but reaching the 'new' forest road it is nicer again. (from here to Plockton would be fairly tough/bumpy in my opinion, and not sure if the windfall from the Winter is cleared yet?)
We continued along this new forest road, up up to the highpoint which is nearly 1000ft. Great views across to Skye and of course Balmacara area. Then for the great downhill - testing the braking on the breeze!
Note that the final gate at this end leading to Balmacara square is also locked with the forestry key.
