I will use this page to keep a 'blog', with pictures, of the rambles for the 2014 season.

Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve, 20th April

by Anthony Stringfellow - 18:10 on 22 April 2013

Saturday 20th April.  Present on the ramble were Colin, Lucy and my son, Ryan.

After the bright cold weather that we had become used to, Saturday was very grey and overcast.  However the rain was very patchy and after checking the forecast we decided to go for it.  We always try to come here once a year at least so it was a familiar drive via Achnasheen to Kinlochewe, and the visitor centre parking just beyond the village.

We set out through the woods, sheltered from the wind by a ridge.  Here there is a short section of 'All abilities trail'. It meanders through some sculptures and information boards that tell the story of the forest and the wildlife to be found there.  After 10 mins or so the path continues, really well made, towards the village, then swings down Glen Torridon under the slopes of Beinn Eighe.  There are plenty of stopping areas, lots of views, and here we stopped for out sandwiches and hot choc.

After lunch we went onto the last long section heading west into the wind, really a shame that the cloud was so thick because we were right underneath Beinn Eighe, and would have been a great view.  The path as far as we could go with the scooter ends at a stream and a track that leads up to the Kinlochewe water supply.  This is where the mountain path goes up to the eastern end of the mountain.  The total distance i have measured to be 6.5 KM.  Looking forward to nice weather for the next ramble at the Clan Donald.
