Robert Burns
27 January 2014

Monday, 27th January marked Anstruther Rotary club’s annual celebration of the life of Robert Burns.

It was an excellent evening, with the Craws Nest Hotel providing a traditional ‘bill o’ fare’. The haggis, borne aloft by Poosie Nancy, was skirled in by Waid Academy pupil Andrew Black and addressed in traditional fashion by club member William Duncan.

Real delights were to follow with an outstanding and wonderfully researched  ‘Immortal Memory’ by Glenn Jones. It was a Memory that roamed far and wide through the work and life of Robert Burns - including material that was new for many in the audience.  David Barnett then intrigued with his ‘Town and Trade’ reminiscences of Cellardyke as it was in (many!) years gone by.

A Toast to the Lassies was proposed by Graham Meacher and Holy Willies Prayer was delivered in resounding fashion by Peter Peddie, suitably attired in nightgown and cap!

Singing was led by the Club’s very own ‘choir’, ably managed by musical director Jessie Lyon, who had even managed to find a song unknown to most ‘The Smiling Spring’.

Following a vote of thanks proposed by Andrew Lindsay, a highly enjoyable evening of fellowship and friendship was brought to a close with Auld Lang Syne.
