President 2013/14
01 July 2013

The 1st July meeting of Anstruther Rotary club saw new President Alastair Graham speaking about his hopes and plans for his year in office.

Alastair, who is an Architect with his home in Elie, expressed some trepidation in taking up office, but warmly thanked club members for the honour and opportunity to serve. He expressed thanks to his predecessor, Roderick Skinner, who had guided the club so ably over the last year.

Alastair especially expressed his gratitude for the dedicated work of club members – all volunteers - in achieving so much by way of service to young people, to local communities, to charities and good causes more widely in Scotland and the UK as well as internationally.

We heard an outline of plans for regular guest speakers and ‘open evenings’ of fellowship, with a focus on informality. In this context we heard of his recent visit to a Cambridge rotary club where dress ranged from the more traditional business attire to jeans and sneakers. Some way from the usual perceived stuffy image of elderly male Rotarians – but as he reported, a highly enjoyable and uplifting visit. In concluding, Alastair mentioned also his hopes that the next twelve months will see a number of new club members.

Best wishes were extended to Alastair for his year as club president.
