PINS Awareness Week
Pelvic Instability Network Scotland will be holding it’s first annual PINS Awareness Week from 5th to 11th October 2009.
This is an ideal opportunity for all our members, supporters and friends to help us increase awareness of Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP) across the UK (and the world), raise the profile of PINS and boost our funds at the same time.
The more we can all do during PINS Awareness Week, the more members we’ll gain and funds we’ll raise, the more the health profession will listen to us and the stronger our voice will be, now and in the future.
Plans so far
Our Chairman, Moira, along with other Committee members Avril, Lesley and Ailsa will be holding a fundraising evening in St Blaan’s Hall, Southend, Argyll during that week. Further details to follow.
Our Membership Secretary, Carole, will be undertaking a sponsored walk in the Edinburgh area. She has just come off crutches, so the distance is still to be confirmed!!
Both of these events will raise awareness of PGP and PINS amongst our local and charge per cup – they could even make the coffee themselves! • if you have kids, get them to do a sponsored silence and you join in too • don’t buy take-away coffee this week and donate the money saved to PINS • if you are creative, hold a sponsored knit-a-thon, or something similar • clear out some junk, if you can, and sell it on ebay, or do a boot sale • do a sponsored walk, bike ride, swim or run • write to your local MP or MSP about PGP • write to your local hospital or health board if you feel there are aspects of your care that could have been improved • put up a PINS poster in your GPs surgery or local medical centre • hand out some PINS leaflets to friends and work colleagues
We can provide PINS sponsorship forms and T-Shirts for anyone who needs them and, of course, posters and leaflets – just ask.
What happens next?
As PGP can be such an isolating condition, we hope that by all doing something in the same week, this will help reduce the feelings of isolation and, often, helplessness that many of our members feel.
We will be updating this page regularly with more information about our Awareness Weeks and if you have any comments or suggestions we would be delighted to hear from you. Please get in touch with us by email at info@pelvicinstability.org.uk.
Christmas Fun Afternoon a Successby Sheila Holder - 11:17 on 06 December 2008The committee of PINS would like to say a very big thankyou to everyone who helped, contributed and came along to support our Christmas Fun and Coffee Afternoon last Saturday. There was a great turnout and good atmosphere and we think everyone enjoyed themselves. The amount raised was £931 which is a fantastic and will go towards our running costs, insurance, website and for the printing and postage of posters, leaflets and information booklets. We are currently working on a "hints and tips" booklet which will be available in the New Year. Comment from Helen at 09:35 on 18 December 2008. Congratulations on your success with fund-raising. So pleased to hear that you have set up this charity - though sorry to read of your struggles with pelvic girdle pain (which I've experienced first-hand). Wonderful to know that you are working to help women with a condition that's so often misunderstood. Comment from Madeleine at 15:29 on 25 January 2009. Great site and fabulous idea for fundraising! I am also an SPD sufferer and was wheelchair bound. Good luck :)Add your comment Please note that whenever you submit something which may be publicly shown on a website you should take care not to make any statements which could be considered defamatory to any person or organisation. | ![]() ![]() |
