PINS Awareness Week

Pelvic Instability Network Scotland will be

holding it’s first annual PINS Awareness

Week from 5th to 11th October 2009.

This is an ideal opportunity for all our

members, supporters and friends to help us

increase awareness of Pelvic Girdle Pain

(PGP) across the UK (and the world), raise

the profile of PINS and boost our funds at the

same time.

The more we can all do during PINS

Awareness Week, the more members we’ll

gain and funds we’ll raise, the more the

health profession will listen to us and the

stronger our voice will be, now and in the

future.

Plans so far

Our Chairman, Moira, along with other

Committee members Avril, Lesley and Ailsa

will be holding a fundraising evening in St

Blaan’s Hall, Southend, Argyll during that

week. Further details to follow.

Our Membership Secretary, Carole, will be

undertaking a sponsored walk in the

Edinburgh area. She has just come off

crutches, so the distance is still to be

confirmed!!

Both of these events will raise awareness of

PGP and PINS amongst our local

and charge per cup – they could even

make the coffee themselves!

if you have kids, get them to do a

sponsored silence and you join in too

don’t buy take-away coffee this week

and donate the money saved to PINS

if you are creative, hold a sponsored

knit-a-thon, or something similar

clear out some junk, if you can, and

sell it on ebay, or do a boot sale

do a sponsored walk, bike ride, swim

or run

write to your local MP or MSP about

PGP

write to your local hospital or health

board if you feel there are aspects of

your care that could have been

improved

put up a PINS poster in your GPs

surgery or local medical centre

hand out some PINS leaflets to friends

and work colleagues

We can provide PINS sponsorship forms and

T-Shirts for anyone who needs them and, of

course, posters and leaflets – just ask.

What happens next?

As PGP can be such an isolating condition,

we hope that by all doing something in the

same week, this will help reduce the feelings

of isolation and, often, helplessness that

many of our members feel.

We will be updating this page regularly with more information about our Awareness Weeks and if you have any comments or suggestions we would be delighted to hear from you. Please get in touch with us by email at info@pelvicinstability.org.uk.

PINS first birthday

by Moira Finlayson - 13:00 on 02 November 2008

It is just over a year since PINS was formed and how the time has flown.

Our website has been up and running since the end of April and we are receiving an increasing number of visitors and enquiries through the site from the UK and from further afield including the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Cyprus.

We are starting to market  the website more formally and over the next 6 months will be aiming to reach more people with Pelvic Girdle Pain/Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD).

We have been asked to write articles for pregnancy magazines and journals and are currently working on an information booklet about Pelvic Girdle Pain.

We are pleased to welcome two new committee members and our next fund raising event will be a Christmas Fun Afternoon in St Blaan's Hall on Saturday 29th November from 2pm until 4pm. We are planning to have craft activities for children including making Christmas Cards and decorating biscuits as well as a chocolate fountain (by popular request), home baking stall,  virgin Vie Stall, raffle, bottle stall and teas, coffees and mince pies.

All offers of help on the day or for donations to the stalls will be gratefully appreciated.
