Community Skip
The Community Council is working in partnership with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar to provide a community skip service for household waste. This service is for the disposal of household waste only. Information about what can and can’t be put in the skip is on PCC Facebook page – 1 July 2020 – and CnES website (type ‘Community Skip’ into ‘Search’).
NEW REGULATIONS FROM OCTOBER 2023
New legislation has been introduced regarding items that can no longer be put into skips. Please read the information below. Disregarding these new regulations will result in the Service being withdrawn.
The following items (Domestic Seating) can longer be put in the Skip because of the presence of chemicals used in flame retardants that should not be land filled:
1.sofas/ sofa beds
2. armchairs
3. upholstered kitchen and dining chairs
4. stools and footstools
5. home office chairs
6. futons
7. bean bags, floor and sofa cushions
Any other seating that contains padding, cushioning, foam,leather/synthetic leather or fabric.
You should contact Creed Park for disposal of these kind of items.
Other items such as Mattresses, headboards,curtains, blinds, and bedframes/bases are not considered domestic seating and can continue to be put in the Skip.
The skip is sited outside Gravir on the road to Eishal.
Opening times: Saturdays between 10.30 a.m and 3 p.m.
The skip is open every Saturday unless there is a notice posted on our Facebook page to say othererwise.
When it is full a replacement is requested from Cleansing Dept. A replacement may not be available or it may be delivered as late as Friday afternoon. Check our Facebook page on Friday evening. If there is no message saying otherwise, then the skip will be open as usual.
The skip must be used responsibly. Misuse could result in it being withdrawn. Any waste materials left at or near the skip is regarded as fly-tipping and should be reported to the Police and SEPA. If you see any instance of fly-tipping, please telephone Zero Waste Western Isles team on 01851 70 99 00 or e-mail to recycling@cne-siar.gov.uk.
