      EDUCATION

Tuition, medicine and dental treatment are free at Government schools. Boarding fees are at the rate of £50 per annum. There are Government boarding schools at Lusaka (for boys and girls), Choma (for girls) and Mazabuka (for boys). The rest of the schools are co-educational day schools.

Nursery Schools. Run by private persons. Fees are £3 3s. per month.

Infant Schools. Run by Government in all large centres. The Dominican Convent has branches in all large centres. These Convents have boarding facilities.

Primary Schools. Also run by Government and Convent.

Secondary Schools. There are some secondary schools run by Government up to the Matriculation or Cambridge Certificate standard, and in one or two cases the Convents also have secondary schools, one of which reaches Form IV.

Large numbers of children go to boarding schools in Southern Rhodesia and South Africa.

Universities. The nearest are in the Union of South Africa.

Technical Colleges. The nearest are in Southern Rhodesia and in South Africa.

Apprenticeships. Trade and mining are available in the copper mines.

Scholarships. Three worth £300 each are granted by Government annually for University education.

Bursaries. Six worth £100 each are granted by Government annually also for University education.

Financial Assistance. Financial assistance grants of £100 per annum, and where necessary loans free of interest, not exceeding £150 per annum, may be made to students to assist them to qualify as teachers in Government service.
