What We Do...

At Playgroup there is a consistent routine that is followed each day that allows the children to learn the skills that are used when they go on to their reception class.

The routine includes:

General Play:-  Children learn to play together and have the opportunity to choose what they play with. There are table top activities to develop their fine motor skills, role play toys, cars, dolls etc.

Circle Time: - This activity enables the children to learn to sit nicely and as a group. Aids communication by discussion and allows the children to develop their listening skills. During this time the children get to discover books and rhymes that link with the terms theme.

Activity Time: - These activities are designed to develop further learning by doing. Activities are in the form of group work, making and doing or role play.

Snack Time: - The children are provided with a snack  consisting of fruit and milk or squash. We aim to provide at least one portion of their five a day as part of the Change for Life scheme.

P.E./ Music and Movement: - This is carried out by dancing to music, playing musical instruments or by completing obstacle courses or general exercise.

Focus On..... Activities: - We developed these small activities to develop various areas of development. These include letter sounds, language, literacy and communication and mathematics. These are in the basic forms in which the youngest to the oldest child can develop their knowledge.

During certain sessions when weather is favourable we take the children outside to discover the world around us - this deepens their knowledge of their world and allows them to explore and find out about where they live.

As part of Knowledge and Understanding of the world we incorporate various R.E. activities in order for the children to learn about their culture and those of others.
