Medicine chest
Household Medicine Box
Basic bandages, sticking plasters, disinfectant, paracetamol, a thermometer and possibly an antihistamine are all that is really necessary. If travelling to remote areas, you may need more items.
Prescription Medicines
Keep an adequate, but not excessive, supply of your prescription medicines.Store them thoughtfully. Return unwanted supplies to chemist. Ensure you know or have a list of what drugs you are on.
Basic Knowledge
The most valuable item in your "medicine chest"! Knowledge of First Aid saves lives, and a reference medical text designed for the general public is a handy source of knowledge.
Prevention is better than a cure
Stop smoking. Take exercise regularly, control your weight and pay attention to your diet. Further advice or assistance can be obtained from the GP or Practice Nurse.
Vaccinations
Ensure your family's vaccination schedule is up-to-date and complete, especially if travelling abroad. The Health Visitors can give you advice on these areas.
