Hive Treatment Records
Here I will record all chemical treatments used on my bees.
I hope to manage my bees with minimal chemical use. however if I do use any chemical medicine within my hive I will only use those which are licenced as safe to use while the bees are making honey.
I will also record ALL treatments here so that anyone who might be thinking about buying Hatton Honey can be sure as to when my bees were treated and with what.

20/09/2013 Bayvarol Varroa Mite Prevention 2 of 3.6 mg strips as per treatment instructions
Batch Number - KP083W7 Expiry date- 04/2017
This treatment was given as per good hive management guidelines for the prevention the build-up of the Varroa mite over the winter.
I have only found one mite in my hive which is good concidering most hives have them in large numbers, I will monitor this over the winter and with a little luck I will have caught it in time before they breed as they can wipe out a hive if the numbers are not controlled.
One of the main reasons why this treatment is used at this time of year is the bees start to cluster together to keep the hive warm as we head into winter. The chemicals within the Bayvarol work by being passed from one bee to another by contact, with the bees clustering together this gives the chemical the best chance to be passed from bee to bee.
The strips of Bayvarol are to be removed from my hive on 5th of November which will most likely be the date will concider the hive shut up for winter.
Bayvarol is licenced and tested to be safely used even during honey production by my bees, that said using it over winter gives the hive about 8 months after I remove the strips before I take any honey from my bees next year.
