The "wise and valiant" Admiral Piet Hein. His capture of the Spanish Silver Fleet at Matanzas Bay has been called, "one of the most significant feats of arms of the century", and it made the siege of Den Bosch possible.

This is the best picture that the author could obtain to show what the house called 'Muiserick' looked like in 1629. The next house to Castel Maurick, where the Prince of Orange stayed, Horatio Vere lodged at Muiserick with his family. It is, therefore, the most likely place where Thomas Fairfax first met Anne Vere.

The author expresses his grateful thanks to Ottie Thiers for this picture.

"There are three schooners belonging to the town which we must take before we can do any good" so Fairfax wrote to his grandfather. At last we can see through his eyes. Those three forts were Isabella, St Antony and Pettelaar.

Courtesy of City Archives, s"Hertogenbosch. Grateful Thanks to Hermann van Boxtel
