RECIPES.1. TWIST. A kind of bread curly-wurly. Take 4 oz flour plus a drop of water and mix to a dough with a pinch of salt. Roll out on a board like a long sausage. Take green, cleaned stick and curl the dough around it; squeeze together at ends. Cook over the red-hot embers of a woodfire out doors. When golden brown on the outer crust, remove from sticks and eat hot with butter or substitute and cheese. 2. The dough can be thinned down with a drop of waterand turned into flat cakes then fried over the hot embers on a metal flat plate or frying pan. Serve with fried bacon. 3. Mince Stew. Take sufficient minced beef appropriate for numbers and gently fry it in a pan over hot embers of a woodfire. Prepare sliced or diced carrots, a chopped onion and some peas. Transfer minced beef into a billy can, add the vegetables a pinch of salt and some white pepper. Cover with water. Refuel fire with logs and as they burn through, then hook billy can over the burnt logs until they become red hot embers. Boil for at least 20 minutes to half an hour. Serve with boiled potatoes. 4. Fried Trout with Watercress and salad. First, catch your trout! Or buy it from a trout farm shop or fishmongers. Prepare it and simply fry it on each side for a few minutes. Serve with watercress and salad, ensuring that green leaves are well washed first. 5. Chicken & Vegetable Crumble. Take 4 large spoons of flour and add a couple of tablespoos of margarine/butter substitute and rub in to make it all like crumbs.In a baking dish , cover the bottom with a mixture of parboiled vegetables (peas, carrots, beans etc.) add a little amount ofchicken stock cover the vegetables with pieces of chicken, pre-cooked, then top off with the crumble. Cook in hot oven until thecrumble is golden brown. Serve with spuds and a different vegetable from the mixture 6. Quick tip. Boiling cabbage: Many people are not exactly turned on by boiled cabbage although it is such a healthy food. Try Adding a few caraway seeds to the cabbage whilst boiling. 7. Potato chips or roast potatoes can taste bland after years of nothing much else. Try grating various cheeses over them before melting in the grill.
