A brief history of Colloidal Silver

Silver has been known to be an effective preservative and medicinal aid for thousands of years by many different cultures.  Ancient Greeks and other cultures of that time were known to use silver vessels to store water to keep it fresh.  In the pioneering days of the US, silver dollars were put in water barrels and in milk to stop it spoiling – there were no fridges then!   Silver as a medicine was used in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s, up until the advent of antibiotics, when its use was replaced and the wide knowledge of its usefulness more or less died out.  A Dr Henry Crookes is credited for using silver in the early 1900’s to cure many infections.  His scientific report from laboratory experiments concluded that there wasn’t any known microbe that could not be killed by the silver within 6 minutes.

Colloidal Silver has been found to be useful against at least 650 different infectious diseases.  In comparison, each synthetic antibiotic only helps with about half a dozen similar types of infection/virus.  The over-use of antibiotics has resulted in some infectious diseases becoming resistant to them.  There is also a risk of harmful side effects on the body from synthetic antibiotics, which, as the diseases become more resistant, means the creation of stronger antibiotics causing the potential for more harm.  It has been found that there is a correlation between a lack of silver in the body and a propensity to be frequently sick with various illnesses.

Traces of the silver mineral occur in our bodies naturally and we would normally obtain further trace elements through our food, however with the advent of intensive farming, any minerals in the ground have effectively been farmed out, Silver being one of them.

Thanks to medical research starting in the 1970’s the knowledge of silver and its benefits and uses is slowly making a comeback.

Silver water purification systems are now easily available and used by many airlines around the world.  NASA also uses a silver based water purification system for the space shuttle after a lengthy review of everything available.  Silver purification is also available for use in swimming pools as a safe alternative to chlorine.

Hospitals are now starting to use silver again too by using silver laced dressings to aid wound healing and you can also now buy silver based products in the supermarkets including hand wash and plasters.
