About Me

I have always loved dogs, in fact all animals and most of my friends would probably say I love animals more than people - and that may be true. There is a saying “the more I see of people the more I love my dogs” and that is probably true for me too. My favourite breeds are German Shepherds and Alaskan Malamutes and I have been blessed with fantastic dogs of both breeds as part of my family.

After years of pestering my family for a dog, they eventually started fostering. We provided a foster home to many dogs over the years, most of whom had received little or no training/discipline and some had been severely neglected and mistreated. We ensured that each dog was re-habilitated and socialised before going to a new home. We started off with one dog at a time, eventually keeping a few that we fell particularly in love with or who decided for themselves that this was where they were going to stay!, however at times we had up to six dogs staying with us looking for the love and care that was missing from their previous life and learning that not all people are bad. To this day I still remember our first foster dog - a beardie collie cross called Beau. So many sad stories came through our doors and of all the dogs that we had, there were some that left a deep impression and strong memories.

In the years since leaving home I have had many pets, including cats, birds, rabbits, and of course dogs. My first dog was a German Shepherd called Jessie. I never wanted to just own a dog; I always wanted to do things with them. So, after attending puppy training classes, I joined a club dedicated to German Shepherd’s. It wasn’t long before I was hooked, becoming a qualified obedience instructor, doing and teaching agility and spending many years on the committee.

My second dog was an Alaskan Malamute. I saw and fell in love with the breed whilst visiting Crufts in 1989. I looked up the breed to find out about them and see if it was a suitable breed for me. I was intrigued by the fact that they were supposed to be not very intelligent or trainable and being a trainer, decided to take up the challenge.

With these and all my subsequent dogs, I have competed in Obedience, Agility, Sled Dog Racing and Weight Pulling and done Backpacking and Tracking.

I currently have 7 dogs and 1 cat. We all live in perfect harmony in the Highlands of Scotland. I run a local dog training and agility club. The club is aimed at the local community helping them train their dogs to be well behaved and well socialised canine citizens and a pleasure to own, to have fun training their dogs and to encourage and promote responsible dog ownership.
